The Sekiro Resurrection Mod is a Masterpiece

If you’ve never heard of this mod, let me give you the details up front. This mod is mostly aimed at experienced players of the game that want even more. It enhances existing bosses with entirely new move sets and mechanics. It adds entirely new bosses and items. It rebalances and enhances existing abilities and tools. To put it simply, it overhauls the entire game, offering a fresh experience, while staying true to the original game. For someone who loves Sekiro, it’s everything I could ever want from a mod. And if you’ve been on the fence with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, this mod is an example of how deep the combat and interactions in the game can go.

Lady Butterfly: Resurrected

This stuff sounds great, but how does it look in action? I’ll use Lady Butterfly as a basic example, as she’s an early game boss. In phase 1 she has some new moves, new attack strings, but I really want to focus on phase 2. In the original release of Sekiro, she uses her power of illusions to create a horde of illusion based enemies. The player can kill them normally, use a snap seed to dispel them faster or stall for time until she eventually sacrifices them for a special attack. I was never a huge fan of this phase 2 mechanic. It’s honestly pretty trivial, and the laziest option of just stalling for time and avoiding her special move is really effective. It doesn’t do a great job of conveying her mastery of illusions and it’s not very interesting mechanically. In the Resurrection mod she casts a buff on herself when she would have summoned the illusion enemies. This buff gives her glowing blue eyes, to be consistent with that of other glowing eye enemies in the original game. Except the blue represents an illusion based effect. While she has this buff she can use an illusion of herself to attack you with, Similar to how Pontiff Sulyvahn’s phase 2 works in Dark Souls 3. But unlike Pontiff’s version, Lady Butterflies illusion will do unique actions during her strings to give her new layered offense. It doesn’t simply mimic her, or throw out the same things she could normally do. On top of all that, you can use snap seeds to dispel her buff effect. After a short time she has to reapply the buff if she can get an opening. Here’s a video demonstration of these changes.

The new sexy Lady Butterfly.

These modifications hit everything just right.

  • Increased complexity to make the game more interesting and challenging

  • Refined mechanics that fix issues with the original game while adding something unique

  • Stays true to the original games storytelling and enhances it

  • Builds on top of the games original mechanics and maintains consistency

I could show more examples of the dramatic changes the creator Ionian has made, but that would spoil the fun. This mod has been in development for a very long time and its creator has put in an insane amount of work into it. This Lady Butterfly demonstration is just a very small example of everything this mod offers.
